Objective: In response to the growing organizational need for sustainable development, this study seeks to identify mechanisms through which environmental training can lead to practical changes in employee behavior by integrating behavioral and managerial perspectives in the field of human resources. Accordingly, the aim of this research was to examine the role of green training in enhancing employees’ green performance. The mediating role of green job crafting and the moderating role of sustainable leadership were also tested.
Methodology: To achieve the research objective, a survey method and structural equation modeling were employed. Using data collected from 144 questionnaires completed by employees of the Tehran Gas Company, the conceptual model of the study was tested. SmartPLS 3 software was used for hypothesis testing.
Findings: The results showed that green training does not have a significant direct effect on employees’ green performance, but it has a significant positive indirect effect through the mediating variable of green job crafting. Moreover, the relationship between green job crafting and green performance is influenced by the level of sustainable leadership in the organization; specifically, this relationship is strengthened under conditions of sustainable leadership.
Originality/ value: From a theoretical perspective, this study contributes by integrating three key constructs, green training, green job crafting, and sustainable leadership into a novel conceptual framework that can enrich the literature on green human resource management.
